Explore the website storySvayam, an initiative of the Sminu Jindal Charitable Trust, works towards a world where people with reduced mobility can participate with greater dignity and independence.
The opportunity was to carry that purpose into its digital presence: a clearer website, more accessible communication and inclusive ideas that people can discover.
Make accessibility something people experience, not just read about.
We connected the place people visit, the content they engage with and the ideas they discover.
Bring Svayam’s work and resources into a clearer digital home, with adjustable reading controls.
PRAVAH turns accessibility principles into practical standards for everyday content.
#SvayamSays makes inclusive alternatives more visible where people look for inspiration.
Svayam needed one place for its initiatives, services, advocacy and resources. We shaped the website around clearer journeys and a WCAG-informed approach, with accessibility controls that give visitors more choice in how they read.
The goal: make information easier to find, follow and engage with.
The initial heuristic review highlighted navigation visibility, overlapping menus and unclear page labels. Those findings gave the redesign a practical starting point.
Organise services, projects, advocacy, media and contact information into distinct paths.
Use consistent brand styling, stronger section separation and more considered spacing.
Use descriptive titles, visible headings and clearer actions to guide the next step.
The team’s original review of the earlier website.
Give content a clear hierarchy and room to read.
Provide visible navigation and recognisable actions.
Use familiar labels and consistent page patterns.
Keep compatibility with browsers and assistive tools in view.
Alongside the website design, we integrated an accessibility plugin. Visitors can adjust text, spacing and visual cues to suit their reading preferences.

Accessibility begins with understanding that people read, navigate and engage in different ways. A clearer layout and adjustable controls give them more choice.

Digital content is consumed
SVAYAM PRAVAH translates accessibility principles into practical creative standards that can be applied consistently across content formats. Explore each guideline below.
Roboto Flex was selected for its adaptability and readability across devices and viewing conditions. Defined type sizes, weights, line heights and spacing help establish a clearer, more consistent reading experience.

Calm pacing, controlled motion, clear narration and considered audio levels support a more comfortable viewing experience. The guidelines prioritise dignified representation and avoid unnecessarily rapid edits, distracting effects and pity-driven portrayals.
Video should be understandable with sound, without sound, with limited vision, with limited hearing, on a small screen and under cognitive fatigue.

Captions are treated as an active part of the viewing experience, not merely a transcript. Synchronised word highlighting, considered emphasis and subtle visual cues help communicate meaning and support comprehension.

Diya introduces a consistent voice for SVAYAM PRAVAH: calm, reassuring and conversational. Measured pacing and simple language give information the time and space it needs to be understood.
Inclusion is not a separate category in sport. It is the foundation of fair competition.
Meaningful image descriptions provide context for blind and low-vision users, helping visual content communicate information beyond what can be seen.
Switch between the two descriptions to hear the difference a screen reader would pass on.
Together, these elements establish a practical foundation for accessible social media communication.

For a year, Svayam will create and promote accessible alternatives
Beautiful Café Entrance as #SvayamSays
The creative direction focuses on making accessible alternatives visible through relevant, searchable content across platforms.
Social mediaThe goal is to make inclusive alternatives easier to encounter, understand and consider during the earliest stages of an idea.
Yet when people search for inspiration, accessibility is rarely the first consideration.
A search for a modern staircase, a premium café entrance or a restaurant interior may surface countless design possibilities without equally showcasing ramps, tactile paving, accessible washrooms, clear signage or wheelchair turning space.
Accessibility can be overlooked long before construction begins. Often, it is absent at the moment of imagination.
People don’t necessarily intend to exclude accessibility. They simply don’t see it.

The #SvayamSays approach is built around this insight. While Svayam cannot directly change every physical space, it can help influence what people see before those spaces are created.
By building a searchable ecosystem of accessible alternatives, the initiative aims to make inclusive design more visible across the digital environments where people seek ideas and inspiration.
The goal is not to change search algorithms overnight. It is to create a growing body of useful, aspirational and discoverable content that can help shape expectations over time.
A clearer home for Svayam’s work and resources, with controls that support individual reading preferences.
Practical creative standards for typography, video, audio, captions and image descriptions.
A framework for making inclusive alternatives more visible where people seek ideas and inspiration.
One ambition: make accessibility an expected part of good design.
